There are so many informative and enlightening books about health out there. But where do you start? One of my favourite authors is Canadian Physician and all round good egg. Gabor Mate. Born under Nazi rule in Hungary during the second world war to Jewish parents. He uses his early childhood trauma to highlight the impact on health. His books are enlightening in areas such as; Addiction, ADHD and recognising when the body says NO. His latest book "The myth of normal" is an exploration around the impact of lifestyle on health in the modern world. He gives real time examples of how we live our lives, creates and cures physical and mental health conditions. It is 500 pages long but packed in is so much thoughtful consideration of what we could do to make our lives, and those of people around us better. He uses published medical data and studies to back up his arguments. The book ends with suggestions about how to implement change. He highlights how no "one size fits all" approach can work and it is all dependent on the individual.
